2017 Recap!

In Joshua Tree for the first time and stayed in the dreamiest airstream!

Stayed in my dream hotel in Los Angeles. I stayed a night by myself and really loved being by myself in a city I wasn't familiar with. It was very freeing..

I drank SO much coffee this year. lol It's what keeps me going! Also spent most of the year in this studio, it kept me inspired throughout the year.

From my collaboration with Who What Wear, showing them some of my favorite spots around Portland. (Prince Coffee)

2017 has been an overall pretty great year for me. Despite a few hard times, like most years, it's been a big year for me when it comes to personal growth and just growing up. I got to travel to some really great places that I had never been including Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, and Reno. My fear of flying held me back a bit but that's something I really want to work on going forward.

I graduated from college this year! After what seemed like forever, I finally got my Bachelors Degree in Fashion Marketing at the Art Institute in Portland. This was such an amazing feeling and accomplishment. I wanted to give up so many times. I honestly hated going, hated presentations, hated being so out of my comfort zone. But I stuck with it and made some great friends
along the way.

I moved into my first ever one bedroom apartment with someone I love who supports and loves me unconditionally. We love the new place and really feel like we can take the next steps in our life together since having a place like this, we really feel like adults! haha
Living in a studio after awhile just doesn't cut it. As much as I loved that studio, I was ready to move on to a different space.

I feel so lucky to have found someone who I can be myself around, I can trust and always rely on. He's the best. Thank you Leo, I doubt you will read this though! haha

We got to see Travis Scott in concert (with a surprise appearance from Drake!), as well as The Weeknd, Tyler the Creator, Chance the Rapper, Allah Las, and a couple more I'm sure I forgot...but those were pretty great. I love that we both share an appreciation for music and get to experience those together.

This year, I also got to work with some really amazing brands and companies! This was definitely a year for growth for my blog. Working with Who What Wear was one of the most exciting for me. They are a company I have looked up to for so long, so to be recognized by them was a complete dream come true.

Even though this year had so many amazing moments and unforgettable memories, there were still hardships included.
My grandpa passed away from cancer in October. I was lucky enough to spend some of his last moments with him but it was really tough seeing someone you love go through so much pain. It brought my family closer together though, and really made me realize that family means so much. No matter what happens or where life takes us, family will always be there and have your back.

2017. Another year, another 365 days filled with so many great times that I probably will end up forgetting while other moments will stay with me forever.
But I am so blessed in the end. Thank you guys so much for another great year and for your endless support, for following along on this crazy adventure of mine called life.

Alright, 2018, I am ready for you! Let's do this.

The Perfect Fall and Winter Outfit!

6L0A9713 6L0A9679 6L0A9708 6L0A9670 6L0A9700 6L0A9674 6L0A9677 6L0A9732
I meant it when I said it, this is the perfect fall or winter outfit! So easy to put together and looks great on just about anyone! I love a good graphic tee so having a graphic sweater is perfect for the cooler months. Pairing them with denim is my favorite and it works great for winter and fall too. This Bella Freud sweater is one of my purchases during the Shopbop Black Friday sale! I have had my eye on it for so long but was so happy that I finally decided to get it! It's definitely an investment piece but I am trying to fill my closet with more investment pieces that I know I will always want to wear and cherish. This bucket bag is another one of those investment pieces as well!
This Building Block bag has been on my radar for awhile now and was another piece I decided to get during the Shopbop sale. Sometimes you just have to wait it out for a good sale and it will all be worth it! I know investment pieces are more expensive, but I really think sometimes they are worth putting money aside, saving up and getting something every now and then.

Together all of these pieces make for one of my favorite outfits this year. Do I say that about every outfit?? lol Well this on is just comfy, warm and I still feel very put together.

UPDATE: Shopbop is also currently having a sale going on! Their sale items are an additional 25% off when you use code JOY25! This is such a great time to pick up an investment piece or two!

Two Winter Looks with Express

6L0A9849 6L0A9858 6L0A9830
I am all about staying warm and cozy this time of year. But that doesn't mean I have to compromise to lounging around in sweatpants and five layers...I still am all about expressing myself through my style. In the mornings, I tend to want to snuggle on the couch with my cup of coffee, catch up on some emails and check social media. There's nothing like a soft sweater for this! This chenille sweater from Express is SO soft and SO cozy. You might not want to leave the couch once you have this on. It's the perfect way to get the day started and perfect for wearing throughout the day too!

And here is outfit number two. Perfect for running errands during the day, or for meetings, meeting up with friends or any other last minute things that may come your way. I love the idea of a white coat this time of year too. It's crisp and pairs perfectly with any color of boots! This one is on super sale right now too and would be great going into Spring next year! The shape of this one is oversized and structured, it's a good one.
Neutrals were my main inspiration of this outfit (like many of my outfits) and I like pairing different neutral and brown tones together.

My Recent Favorite Purchase!

6L0A9604 6L0A9631 6L0A9637 6L0A9639 6L0A96356L0A9618
The other night, I was browsing Pinterest (as usual) and I saw THIS image. I instantly fell in love with the coat and searched all over the internet until I found this one I am wearing here! Although, it's not the exact same one from the photo, it is pretty damn close and a good price. I was luckily able to find it at a local mall (do you guys still shop at the mall?!) but it's been my recent favorite purchase ever since! It's also been so cold here in Portland and this coat is SO warm. Functional and cute...basically what I strive for with every outfit.

These overalls were one of my Black Friday purchases for myself during Reformation's sale...and I loveee them! The quality is great and they're so soft. This look was definitely inspired by Jeanne Damas. Here modern, vintage, Parisian style is always so inspiring. And I kind of felt like I was walking the streets of Europe, wishing this Beetle was my own.
This top was another Shopbop Black Friday purchase and I love it! Such a great layering piece.

Five White Tops You Can Wear This Season! (Yes, AFTER Labor Day!)

6L0A9464 6L0A9425 6L0A9474 6L0A9424 6L0A9477 6L0A9481 6L0A9471
I've never believed in the "no white after Labor Day" and I don't know many people who do. I actually think there's something kind of special about wearing white during the winter, especially lace. Although I do love it during the warmer months, I like to pair white and lace tops under my camel coats! And you can't really wear a camel coat in the summer!
I picked up this SEA NYC lace top during the Shopbop sale! It's the perfect top to pair with jeans or dress up with a skirt for a night out.
So in case you're skeptical about the "White after Labor Day" thing, I decided to link a couple of white tops that work great for this time of year!

White Tops you can wear THIS Season:

1. SEA NYC Lace Top (seen on me here!)

There they are,  go ahead and try it! White during the winter is so fun! Just remember to bundle up!

What to Wear to Your Holiday Party This Year

6L0A9162 6L0A9127 6L0A9176 6L0A9188 6L0A9167
This year can be tough for me when it comes to styling and inspiration. I am very much a tomboy and that can be seen in my style. I do love a cute dress and I do love velvet, but sometimes it can be hard for me to come up with ideas for holiday outfits! Luckily, I did all of the hard work for you guys too if you're dealing with the same thing! I recently got this ROMPER from Urban Outfitters and it's the perfect holiday outfit piece! You can wear it to grandma's house (it's a romper, so you're safe), you can wear it to your holiday work party or even save it to wear on New Years Eve! It's simple enough to pair with tights, a nice shoe and a warm coat! I think it would pair so perfectly with a soft, faux fur jacket too. Or if you get cold easily, swap out the heels for a pair of boots!

Plus this romper is on sale (ending today, the 6th) for $49 plus an additional 30% off! Here is a link to it! It's one less thing for you to worry about during this crazy time of year!

How to Buy Designer Pieces on a Budget

dawnphotography-5 dawnphotography-27 dawnphotography-10 dawnphotography-16 dawnphotography-7 dawnphotography-20
When I first started my blog, six years ago as a high schooler, I was not into designer pieces whatsoever. I preferred to hunt through the thrift stores for vintage pieces, the more colorful the better! Now, I love both of those things and have learned over the years how to find exactly what I am looking for...including designer pieces! And having a love for designer items can be expensive! So I thought I would share a few tips with you guys on how I have been able to obtain a couple of designer pieces over the last couple of years without racking up the credit card debt.

1. Head to those thrift stores! I have found countless vintage designer pieces. This has been where I have had the most luck so far. I've found a Christian Dior coat as well as this Max Mara coat, both at second hand stores and in beautiful condition. This takes a lot of time and persistence, but it can be totally worth it!

2. Wait for sales! Sign up for emails! A lot of online stores offer discounts to first time shoppers and of course have sales. I was able to get a Simon Miller bag during black Friday for almost half off! I had been eyeing it for so long and it ended up being worth the wait.

3. Keep an item in your cart. And check back every now and then to see if it's gone on sale! This works for more than just designer pieces too!

4. Try resell apps and websites. Some great places to check include: Depop, Etsy, Ebay, Poshmark, and more! There are lots of bloggers out there who end up selling their designer pieces for a portion of the original price!

5. Shop last seasons pieces. I'm sure the fashion police is would get after me for advising this, but it's a great way to find amazing designer pieces on sale! This is great especially if you live in a city where there's pretty consistent weather all year round. Stores discount pieces when they're going out of season, and this is a great way to snag them up for less!

There you have it, my tips on buying designer pieces on a budget! I hope that helps a bit! Designer pieces can really be great, especially if it's a pieces you really love. I end up wearing pieces more that I really invest money and time into, they mean more to me and I look forward to wearing them.
Let me know if you guys have any other tips too! I would love to hear them!
