Hanging on to Summer #UODenim

View More: View More: View More: View More: View More: View More: View More:
Sigh. It's officially the end of summer. I always look back and think of how my summer really went. I think back on the memories I made, the way I spent my days, and some things I didn't quite get to do this year. One of the main things I really want to do next summer is another memorable road trip. This time last year, I was driving with my boyfriend through California down to Nevada. I had that sense of adventure and eagerness to start and see new things. It was a great feeling that I hope to feel again. The start and end of summer always gives me that urge to get away. What about you?

Anyways, I can't thank my friend Courteney enough for letting me take over her car...which happens to be my DREAM car. I can only imagine the feeling of driving this down the California coast...

Northwest or Southwest?

6L0A0439 6L0A0427

Ok, I'll be honest. There are days that I REALLY miss this desert. I miss that middle of nowhere feeling. That ability to go travel for the day and see things I've never see. And obviously the cactus/cacti. I've been in the Northwest my entire life basically and I really do love it so much. But the desert intrigues me. Moments like this, I'm so happy to wear this shirt! It's made from a NW brand, Bridge & Burn but still represents the Southwest too. Basically the best of both worlds right?

So what are your thoughts? Is Northwest the best or are you desert obsessed? I WANNA KNOW!

Matt and Tish Photography-101Matt and Tish Matt and Tish Photography-74Matt and Tish Matt and Tish Photography-93Matt and Tish Matt and Tish Photography-59Matt and Tish Matt and Tish Photography-99Matt and Tish Matt and Tish Photography-114Matt and Tish I'm going to be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with "wrap" tops and dresses. They're SO cool and cute and stuff, but I've had a few that are such a pain to make stay in place. Especially if you don't have enough on top to fill out, if you know what I mean. So I can really appreciate a dress that already has the structure but the illusion of a wrap dress like this one.
Pairing sneakers with girly pieces has been one of my favorite things to do the past couple of seasons. I love wearing dresses, but I like to edge them up a bit with a good pair of tennis shoes or beat up boots.

Portland looks like such a big city in these photos! I really love it! I'm just pretending I'm on top of a tall building in New York, just in between fashion shows. Haha NOTTT.

Thanks so much again to Tish Carlson for these badass photos. These are some of my favorites yet!!

I can't get over it. It's such a great way to elevate your outfit effortlessly. For all those fellow tomboys out there who want to look a little extra cute certain days, I recommend a good off the shoulder top and a pair of jeans.

Let's get real for just a second!! Over the years, my style has changed a lot. When I first started The Moptop, I was in high school and was really discovering who I am. 5 years later, I am in college and I definitely know my personal style a lot more. Not only has my style changed but the blogging world has changed SO much. So I want to make my blog a lot more useful. I am going to share more style tips and share some of my favorite pieces to make it easier to shop my style and looks! I would love your feedback! Let me know what you guys want to see more of!

With that being said, here are my current top off the shoulder tops!!

Transitioning your Summer Pieces to Fall

6L0A0620 6L0A0631 6L0A0659 6L0A0645 6L0A0613 6L0A0634 The whole idea of transitioning into fall might seem so out of reach for some of us, especially here in Portland since it finally started to really warm up this week! But we're not far from those warm days that turn into chilly nights. I actually love the end of summer but it can be difficult to figure out what to wear during it. So I've decided to share some ideas of how you can rethink your summer closet and make it a little more fall friendly!

Ways to transition your summer pieces to fall:

1. Maxi/Midi dresses: These are perfect for both summer and fall! This one I am wearing is great light enough for warmer days but the long sleeve and length make it fall friendly as well.

2. Bring out those ankle boots! Some people don't like wearing boots in the summer, which is fine, I actually love it! But they're great for transitioning those summer dresses into more fall appropriate looks!

3. Try more fall inspired colors: Jewel tones and neutrals always remind me of fall and it's the perfect way to slowly reintroduce your wardrobe to a fall mindset. I think this dress is a good example! I can't wait to wear it throughout the next couple of months!

Those are just a couple of tips for ideas on how to get your summer wardrobe a little more on track for fall! I hope they helped! Let me know what you guys think and if you have any other great tips too!

Portland Travel Guide (Instagram Worthy!)

This post is LONG overdo! I get so many emails and comments asking where to visit in Portland as well as questions of where I like to go...especially to get some inspiration (and take a good Instagram!) So here it is, my guide to Portland, OR!

First things first, shopping. Portland is filled with so many cute, curated shops! It's great just to pop in and do some good ole window shopping. Some of my favorites streets to spend the day walking around are Mississippi, Divison, Belmont, and NW 23rd.

IMG_6381 Menagerie (2880 SE Division St.)
This shop is SO cute mostly because it's located inside of an airstream! What could be more Portland than that?! The shop owner is so sweet too....wait until you see the inside, it's just as cute!

Pistils Nursery (3811 N. Mississippi Ave.)
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already heard of Pistils Nursery! It's my absolute favorite plant place in Portland (say that five times fast!). They recently just added a beautiful solarium to their shop and it's bursting with plants!

West End Select Shop (927 SW Oak St.)
The best place to get your hands on some AMAZING indie designer clothing....and some vintage Levi's!! This place is the perfect place to get some good inspiration and drool over the clothes ANS the interior!

Solabee Flowers & Botanicals (801 N. Killingsworth St.)
Plant heaven #2! The photos almost do it justice.

Orn Hansen (2627 SE Clinton St.)
The ideal Portland store. Filled with both vintage and new garments as well as housewares. They sell women's and men's for all you ladies out there, this is a boyfriend friendly shop!!

Cheese & Crack (22 SE 28th Ave.)
This place is so yummy and a fun experience! I love trying all of the different combinations of ingredients! Also, once your done with the main course, make sure to get the vanilla cone with dusted espresso on top. It's a dream.

Porque No? (4635 SE Hawthorne Blvd.)
This is my number one. Whenever I have family or friends in town, I always take them to Porque no. There's just something so great about the environment and the food! Trust me when I say it's worth the wait...and they make a mean margarita!

Pips Original Donuts (4759 NE Fremont St.)
Hands down the best donuts in Portland. The thought of them right now is making me drool. They also make their own homemade chai and there's so many flavors! DELICIOUS!

Tea Bar (4330 SE Divison St.)
Beautiful space and delicious drinks! I recommend the vanilla rose!

Good Coffee (1150 SE 12th Ave)
Where yummy coffee and plants combine. I absolutely love the atmosphere of this place. And the coffee really is good.

Ace Hotel / Stumptown (1022 SW Stark St.)
The classic hotel and tourist destination, it's worth the hype. Beautiful interior and the perfect place to sip on a cup of Stumptown coffee and people watch. Make sure to take a photo in the photo booth before you leave!

Honorable mentions:
-Coava: THE BEST COFEE IN PORTLAND (in my opinion)
-Courier Coffee: Their cookies are amazing as well.

There it is! My Portland travel guide! I hope you guys like it and I hope it helps on any upcoming trips you might have to this great city! Feel free to leave any questions in the comments and let me know what you thought! There is still so much I haven't seen in Portland so I would love to know your favorites as well. Wearing White after Labor Day

6L0A0343 6L0A0361 6L0A0370 6L0A0331 6L0A0378 6L0A0352 As stated previously in my last post, fashion rules are seriously so dumb. I don't listen to majority of them especially the classic "No white after Labor Day". Wearing white in summer is one of my favorites, no matter what month or day it is. It's just a great outfit to cool down in and feel refreshing. Anyways, Do you guys prefer shopping online or in stores? Well, if you're like me, there's nothing that beats online shopping and the ability to shop from the comfort of your own bed. With that being said, I am happy to introduce you guys to It's a super cool site that combines multiple great stores like Nordstrom, Topshop, and Farfetch so you can shop multiple places at once. This is seriously so great for me because there are times when I'm on the hunt for black boots or new jeans and I want to check ALL the places before I make a decision. does that for me! SO COOOL. No joke, it's worth checking out. I got these Opening Ceremony slip ons while shopping on Octer, and they've barely left my feet.

Finders Keepers

6L0A0252 6L0A0284 6L0A0244 6L0A0301 6L0A0287 6L0A0302
I love those outfits that make you feel some sort of way when you put them on. This one in particular makes me feel like I should be on vacation somewhere. Maybe sipping on some nice wine and relaxing on the back of a boat. It's nice to dream and pretend especially when my life is FAR from that right now! haha I'm actually avoiding doing my homework as I type this. But that's what's so great about clothes sometimes. It can take us to another place, make us feel a different sort of way or attitude, even just for a day or a moment. I might just be rambling a bit...but hopefully you guys understand what I'm trying to say haha!

ANYWAYS...I'm a true believer of no rules when it comes to style. So if I want to wear white after Labor day as well as red, white, and blue after the 4th...I'M GONNA DO IT.
Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for these pieces from Finders Keepers, coming out later this year!
